1930 - According to census records, Lonnie Preston, 34, his wife Susie F., 35, and their 3 year old son Lonnie J.* rented the house for $35/month. They shared the house with two boarders, a young couple named Carlton P., 26, and Myra T. Tarpley, 23. Mr. Preston was a traveling salesman for the steam engineering industry, and Mr. Tarpley was a bookkeeper for Propietary Motors (?) (Click image to left to see full size.)

1938 - Woodruff D. Murray, head of household, married to Carrie L., one child, ph. # D-2372 (?). Mr. Murray was a clerk with the State Highway Dept.

1950 - E. L. Morris, resident, ph. # FA-5171 (FA = Fairfax)

1961 - street numbers changed, 126 was the old number
1970 - Elmer L. Morris, homeowner, ph. # 767-5171
1973 - Elmer L. Morris, homeowner and "pntr" for B&B Builders, married to Cath C, clerk for City Finance Dept., ph. # PO7-517
1981 - Nelson Hamlin, homeowner, and possibly Nelson Jr., student, ph. # 762-6574
2007 - it became our home!


* In doing more research on the previous occupants of our house, I found this obituary, which I believe to be the same Lonnie J. above.  The dates match pretty well, but I'm not totally sure it's the same person.

Deceased Name: Mr. Lonnie Preston Jr., 65, of Charlotte died Feb. 1, 1993, at Grand Strand General Hospital in Myrtle Beach. Funeral is 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Sharon Memorial Park. Visitation is 7 to 8:30 tonight at Harry and Bryant Funeral Home. Mr. Preston, an Atlanta native, retired in 1990 as a Phillips Medical Systems service technician after 40 years. He was a Georgia Technical Institute graduate and a Korean War Army veteran. Survivors are his son, James Preston; daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Lewis; one grandson. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 500 E. Morehead St., Suite 211, Charlotte, N.C. 28202.
