a happy hiatus

Well, we just got back in the swing of things and had almost finished digging out the mound of dirt in the backyard when we got a call early Saturday morning that Brandon's sister was going into labor. So we hurried up to Asheville just in time to meet our new nephew Everett. Mother and baby are doing just fine and he is absolutely beautiful.

Today we'll get back to digging and planting!

the big dig

We finally started excavating the big mound of dirt in the middle of the backyard. There used to be a pond there, and we'd found a ton of flagstone type rocks on the surface of the mound when we first moved in. We want to put a patio in sometime soon, so we've got to get this big hill out of the middle of the yard!

Before we begin.

The first big rock find of the afternoon.

Big rock!

Lots of tiny rocks make for fun digging. :(

More flagstones.

And a few large rocks.

We worked from around 6-8:30pm last night.
