Hooray! We closed on the house yesterday, after a fair amount of stress (last minute sub-par repairs by the contractor and a lot of me yelling at my husband, both agents, and the seller) and a lot of delay. Apparently the appraiser didn't do the appraisal until Monday morning, which delayed everything by a few hours. We were supposed to close at 2pm, but ended up closing at 5:30pm, so by the time we finished and went home to gather supplies, we didn't get to the new house until almost 8pm.
B decided to go ahead and pull up the carpet and check out the hardwoods. We pulled it up in the living room and dining room and the floors are great! They probably need refinishing, but they still have a finish on them in most areas. They are narrow oak boards, but that's okay (it'll keep my mom from worrying about heart pine being, as she calls it, "kindling"). We're not really sure why the contractor/seller decided to do cheap carpet rather than refinish the floors, although we guess they just took the easy route (and probably less expensive, given the carpet they used!).
