Brandon found this lovely platter/bowl at the thrift store last week. We love it even if it turns out to be cheap/new/whatever, but we're not sure who made it. We've both searched online for a few hours, and can't find ANYTHING. If you've seen these marks before (or if you've got a good book on silver hallmarks), help us out!
It looks like it says: VICTORIAN, then has three shields with letters that might be F, S, and T, then a rooster or bird head of some kind, then 4204 / S.
And yes, he paid the exorbitant price of $2.02! :)

Aha! A nice person on the www.925-1000.com forum directed me to this site!

Scroll halfway down to the Forbes Silver Co. That's it!
It's a nice platter! I'm glad you figured out more about it.
This reminds me of a rifle at the EPHS (not on display) dated 1876 or close by there. It had marks like that and they indicated a particular inspector or part, the website I found even had the name of the inspector that was associated with the mark. Not the same deal, but it reminded me of that. Here is a link to the rifle post on my blog. http://southernshades.blogspot.com/2007/05/bang-bang.html
